VooPoo Drag 157W TC; it’s not every day you get the chance to review a box mod with a name like that.
The name may be a little strange but don’t be too quick to poo-poo the VooPoo. It’s actually quite a nice piece of kit. If you can get past any hang-ups you may have about the name and don’t mind using a lesser-known brand of vaping device, you may be surprised at how good it is.
As for the colourful design, you’re either going to love it or hate it. The swirls of colour look like something you may experience during an acid trip. However, due to the way the colourful resin inlays are manufactured, each one of them is unique. So, although you may see other people with similar-looking devices no two VooPoo Drag 157W TC resin edition box mods are the same.
The resin inlay is only on one side of the unit. The other side has a black/grey panel that bears the word “DRAG” and acts as a door. It’s held in place by powerful magnets but can be pulled open easily with moderate figure pressure. You need to do this to place the batteries inside.
The battery trays have good, clear markings to let you know which way around the batteries have to go. There’s also a handy pull strip that makes it nice and easy to remove the batteries if you need to replace them.
Even if the battery markings weren’t so clear, making a mistake would not cause the MOD any harm. It has reverse polarity protection as well.
New to Vaping? This is What You Need to KnowIf you are new to vaping and reading this review because you want to jump in with both feet and are considering using the VooPoo Drag 157W TC as your first device, you need to be aware that, unless you buy a starter kit, the atomizer is not included. Nor are the batteries. All things considered, buying the VooPoo Drag 157W TC is probably not the best option for beginners. It’s a toy for the big boys and gals who are used to walking around with their heads in the clouds. If you are new to vaping and only looking for a safer alternative to cigarettes, you’d be better off choosing an Innokin Endura instead. It’s a cheaper device to buy and has everything you need to start vaping. All you need to do is put it on charge, buy a bottle of e-liquid, and you are good to go. (Innokin Endura T18 Review) |

Special Features
The VooPoo DRAG 157 W is fitted with VooPoo’s Gene Chip that enables it to have a lot of interesting features and abilities. The MOD is also notable for its record-breaking 0.025-second firing speed.
As well as providing the MOD with in-built protection against over-charging and short-circuits, etc., VooPoo has provided several good-sized venting holes at the bottom of the device to support adequate battery ventilation.
The big firing button is also a nice feature. It’s easy to see and feels good under the thumb. If you don’t like small, fiddly firing buttons, the VooPoo Drag 157W TC could be a good Box Mod for you.
The two adjustment buttons that sit next to the OLED display screen provide can be used independently or together to support a vast number of functions that are made possible thanks to the special Gene Chip.
There may be a learning curve involved, but the chip allows you to view and customize the device’s firing temperature between 200 to 600F. The technology also allows you to alter the Variable Wattage anywhere within the 5 to 157W range.
The temperature control supports traditional Ni200 Nickel, Titanium, and Stainless Steel wires. And here’s the clever thing: the Gene Chip recommends “easily adjustable ideal output settings”. So, if you are unsure about the best setting there is no need to stand scratching your head. VooPoo’s technology makes it easy. Just go with the Gene Chip’s recommendation.
Many experienced vapers agree the recommendations are generally spot-on. The device also displays the current battery life. That’s important but, in all honesty, all the best MODs do that.
The Gene Chip also supports a five-bank memory that allows you to save numerous settings. That means there should be less need for fine-tuning your adjustments when you change the batteries.
VooPoo has also provided the Drag 157W TC with upgradeable firmware that makes it possible to download the VooPoo PC app. That’s going to be very handy if you want to customize the device settings or the logo.
VooPoo Drag 157W TC Reviews From Customers
There are some nay-sayers but customer reviews are mostly good. A couple of customers complain about faults with their MODs but no manufacturer has a 100% success rate. Overall the quality control at VooPoo appears to be very good and, if you need it, the VooPoo warranty is there to fall back on.
Where Can I Buy the VooPoo Drag 157W TC?
You can buy VooPoo Drag 157W TC from many vaping suppliers. You may be able to get one from your local vape shop. If you are buying online, Amazon generally offers the best price. At the time of this review, it was possible to buy a VooPoo Drag 157W TC for just under £30.
How Much Does the VooPoo Drag 157W TC Cost and is it Worth the Money?
Depending on where you go, you could end up paying £50 or more. See a price tag like that and you know you are dealing with a greedy supplier. Turn and walk away. Most suppliers are charging £32-£38 so Amazon’s £29.99 is very good.
UPDATE (March 2022): This model no longer appears to be available. I suggest going with a VOOPOO Drag 3 Kit Instead.
The VooPoo Warranty
VooPoo vaping devices have a 90-day warranty. The warranty period begins on the date of purchase. If you don’t have the original invoice (to provide the date of purchase), the warranty runs from the date of manufacture. Although the device may be new to you, it could have been sitting in a shop or warehouse for several months. Maybe even longer than a year. Bear that in mind and make sure you keep a copy of your receipt.
If you damage your VooPoo Drag 157W TC by misuse or trying to adapt it in some way, you will void the warranty. Bear that in mind too.
VooPoo Drag 157W TC Review: The Verdict
As far as the device build quality goes, the VooPoo Drag 157W TC is first-rate. A few customers have reported issues, but that’s more to do with bad luck than bad build. In the unlikely event that Lady Luck is not on your side, you can always get a replacement or repair via the VooPoo Warranty.
With so many great features at your fingertips, the VooPoo Drag 157W TC is a safe and powerful vaping device that’s very user-friendly and could be a great gift for someone or a lovely present for yourself.
